Antica Formula Vermouth
Description
Volume: 70cl * ABV 16.5%
Antica Formula is a sweet red vermouth made from an original recipe by Antonio Benedetto Carpano, the man credited with creating modern vermouth in Turin in 1786. Carpano originally developed vermouth by mixing herbs with a base wine and then sweetening it by adding spirit. His new drink proved so popular that soon his shop had to stay open 24 hours a day to satisfy demand.
Antica Formula is richer and more complex than most red vermouths. The numerous aromatic plants that go into the recipe of Antica Formula are extracted by hot infusion or cold extraction methods handed down through the centuries, depending on the raw material. These methods, along with the recipe itself constitute the secret of this product.
Light brown in colour with an amber hue, this vermouth has a bouquet of vanilla with spicy, citrusy and dried fruit notes of almond, raisins and cloves. Well-rounded on the palate with a rich vanilla taste that picks up the aromas from the nose. Combines well with the bitter orange, dates, cocoa beans and saffron flavours.
This top quality red Vermouth features in many different cocktails and will make an excellent Bronx, Manhattan, Negroni or Americano.

More about Vermouth
Although the origin of this name is not certain, it probably derives from “Wermuth” the German word for “absinthe” (Arthemisia absinthium). This type of wine was prepared by the ancient Romans and given the name Absinthiatum Vinum. It owes its fame however to Antonio Benedetto Carpano, the first person to replicate the recipe with the same characteristics and taste in 1786. According to the EC Regulation of 1991, an aromatized wine (or wine-based aperitif) is defined as a drink obtained from one or more wines with the addition of alcohol, aromatized using natural substances and/or preparations with the addition of aromatic herbs and/or spices and/or flavouring foodstuffs.
In order to be classed as a vermouth, it must be composed of at least 75% of wine, have a minimum alcoholic strength by volume of 14.5% or more and a maximum alcoholic strength by volume of less than 22% and must contain Artemisia
