Sicilian Marzipan Fruits
Description
Weight: 200g
Well known and loved throughout Italy these ‘Frutta Martorana’ are made with local organic almonds by our friends at Donna Elvira in Modica on the south of the island. This delicious Sicilian speciality is said to have originated at the Martorana Monastery near Palermo where nuns decorated empty fruit trees with colourful marzipan oranges, mandarins and lemons to impress a visiting archbishop at Easter time!
Realistically coloured with vegetable dyes and shaped like fruits and vegetables, these hand-made marzipan sweets are wonderful as a gift or look amazing displayed on the table as a special after dinner treat!
Please note that this particular type of marzipan has quite a hard texture, so different to the marzipan fruits you may find in the UK.
